Have you read the book "How to Do Nothing"? It's about the attention economy, and it has some excellent exercises and ideas on how to notice the natural world right within the cities we live in (such as San Francisco).

Hi Sarah, Thanks for such an interesting read today. It happens that Parliament Street is the street that I grew up on, between Wellesley and Prospect on the west side. Regarding trees I recall the death of all of the neighbourhood elms way back when I was seven or so. Our immediate neighbours to the south had to have theirs removed. It was such a big change in the neighbourhood to have the have the elms diseased and taken down. The installation on Parliament Street is just incredible and I hope to get a chance to see it.

Todd Irvine did a pre-Covid presentation about trees for the East York Garden Club. It was one of the best meetings we'd ever had. He talked about his garden and the trees he'd planted. I used to live in the same neighbourhood and would have loved to experience the work he did on his property. The lots are so small in that neighbourhood that I think having a tree (or trees) is hard to imagine. He was so encouraging that I'm sure many of us reconsidered being treeless.

Thanks for the message in today's blog. Trees are precious.
