That Ghanaian wedding looks like so much fun! Are you aware of the Jerusalema, a dance that got popular over the pandemic ( maybe a little earlier, not sure). I hope I’m at a party someday where it breaks out! Once I heard it from a party nearby but I couldn’t figure out the direction it was coming from, I was so wistful!
No! Wow, thank you (Googles furiously). So interesting: The dance challenge became a form of collective prayer, an offering of movement that transcended language and culture. It was as if, through each step and sway, the world was crying out together, reaching toward that place of peace, reminding us that we are all pilgrims on a journey to something greater than ourselves.
OMG I totally got side tracked searching it for you and started relearning it…..aw that’s so sweet! I mean there were some really lovely unity creating things during that time, lots of dances. I know there’s another song by Rikvit? I’ll look for it . I’ve always known it as a dance that looks really simple but is a little harder than you think and you are supposed to be able to hold a plate of food while you do it. There is the original, and then there is a video about the backgroud of the singer and the song https://youtu.be/613A9d6Doac?si=AOe3XIKIWWrsYhkI
Oh my god. So many things to comment on. First of all, I love that you went to a Ghanaian wedding! My African dance teacher and drum teacher in college were Ghanaian so I know so many of the dances and have a great appreciation for high life music. Second, too many things to comment on intelligently and my brain is super fragmented due to impending doom/election here in the States but my book club is reading All Fours... More later.
Thank you for your news letter. I always enjoy it. Between the election and the climate sometimes I feel overwhelmed. Just need to do something positive even if it is little.
Today is a rainy gusty day in Western Washington state. My body is resisting moving (likely pressure changes or whatever). As a differently able person some-days are much more challenging than others. Just Keep On Keeping On is the best any of us can mange with physical decline, personal relationships, the climate changes, and whatever life throws at us.
Thanks Sarah, for your insights, aliveness, and your view of reality in this moment. Particularly I enjoy, get a-kick-out-of the drawings, and basically look forward to this newsletter whenever it shows up.
“Beauty sneaks in everywhere” love that/photo
I enjoy your letters very much. I'm overwhelmed these days, but I tried to take it in! Thank you!
I wish you underwhelm, or just whelm! Thank you Kathleen!
Enjoyed the word solistalga - my iPad suggests I misspelled it
I enjoy your letters .. today I am overwhelmed and your ask was more than my brain could handle
Keep up the fight 🙃

Because I hate when I don't show my sources!
Of course "Jerusalema" feels like such a fraught and painful thought right now, so much death and pain in that area of the world.
But it has such good mellow vibes!
ah Ritviz, Thandi Hawa a different style of beat much more drum and bass which I also LOVE, but seeing people dancing makes my mirror neurons bounce
